To be a leader means a lot of things. It can be anything from being a captain on a sports team or a President to a club to organizing a fundraiser to fight cancer. Every day we witness someone stepping up and becoming a leader, even if we don't realize it. Most people believe that to be a leader you must be outspoken, and well liked, and even though those are good qualities for a leader I don't believe that you have to have those characteristics. I have witnessed the most shy, and quiet people step up and become a leader, and while they may have started out a little tense they still did a fantastic job.
Leaders don't have to be fit into a stereotype. In high school people believe that leaders consist of people like the star quarterback on the football team, or the head cheerleader. Most people don't think that someone who sits at his or her desk all day and just reads could be a leader. While that person may seem shy and very timid they could also easily be the head of the debate or reading team. Most people never assume that their classmate who always seems to have a computer at their side could end up becoming a multimillionaire, because they own their very own company.
I believe that all it takes to become a good leader is courage. Courage is a huge aspect of leadership because if you don't have courage to stand up for what you believe, then why would anyone want to follow you? To be a leader you don't have to be popular, you just have to be courageous and have the desire to do what you love. Whether it's being a captain on a team, or organizing something to stand up for what you believe in. Everyone may have different opinions on what leadership is, but leadership is many things.
